German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at Gisma University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam

Reflecting on an extraordinary day at Gisma University of Applied Sciences! The prestigious Gisma Think Campus in Potsdam buzzed with excitement as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz engaged in insightful discussions on the future of education and challenges faced by students.

The Chancellor’s curiosity led him to an AI and Data Science class, where he immersed himself in the world of artificial intelligence, leaving both students and instructors inspired. A unique opportunity unfolded as students had the chance to snap pictures with Chancellor Scholz himself, creating unforgettable memories.

“We’re honored to have hosted Chancellor Olaf Scholz and are grateful for the impactful interactions that transpired during his visit,” remarked Prof. Dr. Stefan Stein, President of Gisma University of Applied Sciences.

Speaking on the visit, Chancellor Scholz highlighted the challenges faced by international talents in Germany, emphasizing the expectation of German language skills in many aspects of life, even when not strictly necessary for the profession. “In our modern globalized world, it’s outdated to reject a highly qualified professional simply because they speak only English,” stated Chancellor Scholz.

Addressing the skill shortage, Prof. Dr. Stefan Stein added, “As an international university, we offer international solutions: German language skills should no longer be the top employment criterion.” He emphasized the importance of embracing labor migration, especially in fields like AI, software engineering, and data science, where German skills may not be essential.

Chancellor Scholz expressed admiration for the international students choosing Germany, stating, “It was inspiring to see how many students from around the world come to Germany and wish to work here afterwards. We need these young and well-qualified men and women for the successful economic development of our country.”

The visit served as a platform to discuss solutions to the skill shortage and promote a more inclusive approach to international talent, echoing the sentiment that a diverse and global perspective is crucial for addressing the challenges of the future. Here’s to the collaborative efforts shaping a future marked by innovation, diversity, and academic excellence!
